‘Omega-3′s and Bone Density’- http://www.laurelonhealthfood.com, 08/09/08

Research from Umea University (Sweden) found that omega-3 fatty acids may contribute to stronger/ denser bones in men. The study found that 22-year-old men with the highest omega-3 levels (especially DHA) in their blood had the highest bone mineral density and greatest bone growth rate in the time between late teens and early twenties. The researchers noted that omega-3s might aid bones form through calcium metabolism or collagen formation. They also said that the bone mineral we store as teens and young adults is a major factor of whether we develop osteoporosis (a disease of the bone that occur after menopause, that leads to an increased risk of fracture) later in life.

Sources of omega-3 fatty acids: walnuts, flaxseeds and salmon.

This blog entry is another light read, an update of the health and science world for people who are interested. The blogger doesn’t make any personal comments, and I too don’t have any comment to make as it doesn’t concern me.
